Dave Spikey - Juggling on a Motorbike

Thursday 22nd February at 7:30pm

Dave had been working in the NHS for 19 years as a Biomedical Scientist when in 1987 someone uttered the immortal words, “You’re really funny, you should be a comedian” and for some reason, he took them seriously!!  Only a few short months later he was crowned the winner of the national talent show “Stairway to the Stars”. Larry Grayson, one of the judges, told him that it was a close run thing on the night but what clinched the award for Dave was his routine about a juggler on a motorbike. Fast forward 13 years (Is that possible?) to Friday 13th October 2000 , the day Dave switched off his microscope for good and found himself, the following Monday, sitting on rain swept local car park dressed as a giant berry!! So now in 2017 he celebrates the 30th anniversary of his comedy career. In this show he will look back on his remarkable life and his incredible journey from working class lad to Chief Biomedical Scientist to much loved comedy performer and writer via Phoenix Nights, Eight out of Ten Cats, Bullseye, Dead Man Weds, Magnolia, The Royal Variety Show, Parkinson and many more. He often reflects that maybe none of this would have happened and he might still be looking down his microscope today if it wasn’t for the juggler on the motorbike.

The Strange Case of Jekyll and Hyde

by Robert Louis Stevenson adapted for stage by Nick Lane

Monday 26th February at 7:30pm

Doctor Henry Jekyll is a good man. Successful within his field and respected by his peers, he’s close to a neurological discovery that will change the face of medical science forever. However, his methods are less than ethical, and when a close friend and colleague threatens to expose and destroy his work, Jekyll is forced to experiment on himself, whereupon something goes very wrong…or very right. And suddenly Jekyll has a new friend, the brutal Edward Hyde.

A thrilling adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s dark psychological fantasy, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde immerses you in the myth and mystery of 19th century London’s fog-bound streets where love, betrayal and murder lurk at every chilling twist and turn. Gripping, stylish and thought-provoking, this is unmissable theatre. Go on...treat your dark side!

“Lane explores the scientific ideas of the day and the development of neuroscience without it feeling like a foundation lecture in 'A' level psychology” The Independent

“A genuinely fresh take on a well-known story” British Theatre Guide

“Through adding in an uncomfortable love triangle…Lane has focused on the real horror lurking underneath this Victorian story; that of the warping effect of repressed sexuality. It is a masterstroke that has been given room to breathe in this new adaptation…a thrillingly dark drama”  The Stage
