Help Keep the Curtain Up: Lancaster Grand Theatre Calls for New Volunteers

Lancaster Footlights & Grand Theatre are launching a new campaign to attract fresh faces to their volunteer team.
Built in 1782 and powered by the community for generations, Lancaster Grand Theatre is one of our city’s cultural treasures. But it’s our volunteers, from ushering Front of House to serving refreshments, who help keep the curtain rising night after night.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have an amazing team of volunteers who take great pride in ensuring our guests have a safe and enjoyable visit , but we need more hands-on deck,” says Mark Hutton, chair of the board of trustees of Lancaster Footlights & Grand Theatre CIO. “Having a large and diverse team helps us share rotas, ensures everyone thoroughly enjoys their volunteering experience, and enables us to cover our wide ranging programme of live events in a way that reflects the vibrancy of our venue, and the community we serve.”
The campaign highlights the flexible, friendly, and rewarding nature of volunteering, and aims to challenge perceptions that theatre roles are just for performing arts enthusiasts.
“You don’t need to be on stage to be part of the show,” says current volunteer Tobias “It’s amazing to be part of a historic venue filled with joy and wonderful people.”
Volunteer roles include ushering and welcoming guests, ticket scanning, serving refreshments and helping ensure show nights run smoothly under the guidance of Operations staff. Free training is provided, and a new volunteer induction session is planned for July.
